 REPORT WRITINGS /A DARING BANK ROBBERY

Purulia, July 5: A daring bank robbery took place at about 10 a.m. today at the Purulia branch of the State Bank of India. Five persons in ordinary dress got down from a black ambassador and entered  the bank as customers. They took the armed guard by surprise and overpowered him. They snatched the rifle from the guard, took out their own revolvers and threatened to shoot everyone.Then  they took  position in different corners. Two of them threatened the customers at revolver point to keep silent, while the other three took charge  of the manger and others on duty.They deactivated the burglar alarm and cut off the telephone lines. Then they looted 30 lakhs cash and jewellery worth 20 lakhs.  It was the busy hour of the day and the brqanch was crowded with customers. But the decoits  could  easily escape in the same car which was waiting outside. The whole operation was completed within 15 minutes. The bank officials informed the police. The police arrived after half-an hour.  Police investigation is still going on. No arrest is reported till now.

Purulia, July 8: A gang of five dacoits robbed cash and valuables worth  50000 rupees of the passengers in a Howrah-bound local train at around 8:30 p.m. They injured at least 24 persons. According to a victimised passenger,  a  group of 5 men boarded the compartment when the train had just started  moving off the Magrahat Railway station. Five persons in ordinary dress entered  as passenger. They took out their own revolvers and threatened to shoot everyone.They attacked three sleeper coaches .  They looted cash, ornaments and other valuables at the point of arms. The passengers who offered resistance were fatally injured. After looting the passengers, the dacoits got down from the train by pulling the chain near Howrah  station. The passengers gathered  the GRP office at Howrah  and complained about police inaction. No arrest is reported till now.

Purulia, July 8: A robbery took place at Pragati Plaza Housing Complex in Purulia . The incident took place around 12 noon as reported by Pinku Modak, the owner of the flat.  Mrs. Modak, 65, informed  our correspondent  that he was alone in the flat as his husband and son were out of station to attend a marriage ceremony. About four people knocked his door telling that they had come on behalf of a voluntary organization .  On entering, one of them held a gun. They broke the almirh of their bedroom from  which they took away around 75000 rupees and valuable jewellery worth rupees 5 lakhs. The police was informed and they have started investigation. The security of the flat  has been interrogated. None has been arrested so far.

Report Writings/DEPARTING TEACHER GIVEN FAREWELL

P.N.V., PURULIA 5th December:  Sri Subal Kr. Mandal , an assistant teacher of our school was given a farewell on the solemn occasion  of his retirement yesterday. Sri Mondal  , a sincere  and committed teacher , had been serving the school  for more than four decades.  The farewell function was presided over by the A.D.I. of schools , Purulia . The function was started with  a song  sung by some students in chorus. The departing teacher was garlanded first. The H.M. of the  institution delivered an impressive speech about Mr. Mondal’s contributions to the all-round development of the school. All his colleagues paid heartfelt homage to the retiring teacher.  They regarded  his departure as an irreparable loss for the school. Mr. Mondal in his farewell address thanked all heartily too all. Mr. Mondal  promised to work for the well being of the school even in his post retirement years. Finally the students and the teachers handed over him some gifts as token of their love and respect to the retiring teacher.
